Is Egyptian Mau fur a different texture than that of your average cat?
I have an Egyptian Mau mix that was born in mid June, making her almost seven months old. The first thing I noticed when I got her is that her fur was the softest I'd ever felt on a cat, and it is still as silky plush as always, but she doesn't shed at all yet. So I guess I have two questions:
Is silky soft fur a breed characteristic?
And when do cats start shedding?
Its a breed characteristic. My Ocicat has very silky fur too and very little shedding (about as much as a Cornish Rex!). They do shed out a little in the spring. Once a week combing will take care of any loose fur during that time.
