Richard W. Hafer of Greensburg (tribunereview)
Richard William "Rich" Hafer, 64, of Greensburg, Salem Township, lost his long
battle with cancer in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family on
Sunday, March 25, 2012. He was born June 1, 1947, in Latrobe. He was the first
of seven children born to the late Richard and Connie DeLuca Hafer. Prior to
retirement, he was employed by Texas Eastern, Spectra Energy at the Delmont
Station with 43 years of service. Rich was very proud to have served his
country in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, having enlisted in July
1966 and was honorably discharged in July 1968. He received a Purple Heart for
wounds he received there. He loved to hunt and fish and his palomino trout was
the first to be recognized in the state of Pennsylvania in 1988. He will
always be remembered for his vegetable garden and planting his green onions
and lettuce before anyone else. Rich spent many hours working on and attending
car shows with his red 1970 Chevy Chevelle SS 396, traveling all over America
and winning many shows with it. He belonged to AMVETS Post 85 in Export for 22
